A Canadian court is today to give its final ruling on whether Genocide fugitive Leon Mugesera is be deported back to the country or not.
Lawyers had argued during the hearing that the Canadian federal court and not the quebec superior court should have a final say paving way for his deportation or continued stay in Canada. Mugesera is accused of helping to incite Rwanda’s genocide by delivering a 1992 speech that promoted the killing of Tutsis.
Earlier on The Superior Court of Quebec granted a one-week stay after Mugesera's lawyers filed a motion against the government of Canada to deport Mugesera citing concerns raised by the UN Committee against Torture.
But Justice Minister Tharcisse Karugarama says the deportation of genocide suspect Leon Mugesera is bound to take place despite events that have led to delays. He affirmed that that Leon Mugesera will receive a fair trial like other genocide suspects before himThe prosecution spokesperson Allain Mukarurinda says they will not tire in pursuing justice in the case of Mugesera.
Mugesera has been involved in a lengthy legal battle with Canada to stay in the country a battle that wound up before the Supreme Court of Canada in 2005
